Improved quality ranking: We’re making algorithmic enhancements to our core ranking systems to ensure we surface the most helpful information on the web and reduce unoriginal content in search results. \n\n3/9 (Friday) is when we are starting to see the first signs of ranking volatility related to the core update from rank tracking tools. When the ranking changes happened, a lot of sites started to report major ranking drops, and the third-party tracking tools noticed big volatility. That all calmed on 3/10 (Sunday) through 3/13 (Wednesday) but we also had reports of reversals.Google also released tons of manual actions around 3/6 (Wednesday) and 3/7 (Thursday). Google also released the March 2024 spam update at the same time, so a lot of what we are seeing across core, spam and manual actions - all at the same time. However, now we are seeing some reversals, not many, but some, while the Google search results seem to calm for a bit based on those third-party tracking tools. On 3/26, the Semrush sensor spiked at 9.2 which is the highest level of volatility since the core update started rolling out.\n\nOn 3/15 there are more signs of Google search ranking volatility likely related to the core and spam updates. Google said the core update would have multiple systems within it updated over the course of the month rollout - so maybe another system is being updated? Google has completed the rollout of the March 2024 spam update after 14 days on March 20, 2024. Remember, the March 2024 core update is still rolling out and will do so for the next couple of weeks.\n\nWhile we have still not seen any sites recover from the September 2023 helpful content update, we have seen sites recover from previous core updates. As the Google March 2024 core update hits the 36th day of its rollout (April 10th), there are more ranking fluctuations and volatility being reported both by the Google tracking tools and within the SEO community through a spike in chatter. Maybe this is the last wave of the update before it is done? There were ranking fluctuations over the weekend starting on Friday (4/12) and going into Sunday. Ranking chatter has really started heating up around 4/17. Over the past few days (as of 4/25), the SEO chatter around the Google search ranking volatility continued to be superheated.
